Burns Night
Once again a traditional Burns Night was enjoyed by members and friends of the Austro-British Society, in the cosy atmosphere of the Diana Bar in Hall.
After a welcoming drink, readings of Burns’ verse were given by President Andrew Milne-Skinner, his wife Sandra, Erica Frantz and her sister Evelyn Zisch. As all of them are native Scots, we were treated to a very authentic rendering.
This was followed by the traditional meal of cock a leekie soup, haggis, neeps and tatties, rounded off with a delicious dessert well laced with whisky. Feeling relaxed and mellow it was now time to get onto the dance floor.
To the accompaniment of Scotsman Liam and his harmonica and with his enthusiastic encouragement, many joined in dancing the ‘Gay Gordons’ and ‘Strip the Willow’, traditional Scottish country dances. Despite initial chaos, great fun was had by all.
The evening was finally brought to a close with the singing of ‘Auld Lang Syne’.
Our thanks go to Erica and Evelyn and to Herbert and Dieter for all the effort they put into this most enjoyable event.
